The Poor Girls Open is a women-only billfish release tournament benefiting breast cancer research. This tournament was started by Capt. Steve Harman as a way for local waitresses and bartenders to have an affordable and fun competition while raising money for a very important cause. The tournament continues to grow, with over 200 boats and over 900 lady anglers’ boats entering. Participation is not limited only to anglers as we transform Fish Tales and Bahia Marina into one of the Mid-Atlantic’s favorite pastimes and most enjoyed events of the year. Each day during the tournament weigh-ins, there are raffle items, auctions, vendors, tournament merchandise for sale, and other fun events helping to raise money for breast cancer research. The Poor Girls Open has donated over $2 million to the American Cancer Society.
The anglers will be releasing billfish, and there are added entry levels for wahoo, tuna, and dolphin. We have a special added entry for breast cancer survivors. Come and join in on the fun with over 275 boats participating and over 900 anglers. Anglers will only fish one day out of the three. Best of luck to all of our anglers!
